OUR STORY
This isn't the first time I've tried to build Monyo Mortoo.
I started this brand back in 2016 — with the same instinct I'm following now, and nowhere near the readiness to follow through on it. Corporate life pulled me back in, and the idea sat quietly for years while I built other people's visions instead of my own. This relaunch is me doing it properly this time — with the time, the resources, and the patience I didn't have the first time around.
The pull toward Ghana isn't new either. My roots are Ewe, and the thread between New York, where I'm from, and Ghana, where part of me is from, has been in me a long time. Monyo Mortoo is where that thread finally gets to be the point, not the backstory.
Why clothing: [what drew you to fashion specifically, over other creative outlets].
Why now: after years spent building strategy and communications for other people's companies, this is the first thing that's entirely mine — built on my terms, on my timeline, the second time being the one that counts.
